From Tierra Del Norte Arabian Horse Association Member, Kira Ezis:
Hi everyone, so many of our wonderful members have been calling with offers of help during this tragic fire storm. If your one of those people, here is away for you to assist. The Del Mar Fairgrounds which is the main evacuation center for horses, needs volunteers to help in watering, feeding, exercising, and cleaning up after the evacuated animals in their care. They also could use people to man the phone lines and people with large trailers for taking the evacuees home. You must be 16 or older for the day shift and 18 or older for the graveyard shift, 10pm to 7am. they would like us to use the Solana Beach gate,
security will take us to the feed store where we will get our assignments. If your interested please contact Kira Ezis at 760 598-0223 or the Fair Grounds at (858) 509-5245. My heart felt thanks goes out to Brenda La Vette, who even while grieving for the lose of her best friend Nancy Morphew, was able to make the suggestion that we could help at the fair grounds. Hope to see you out there. Kira

Del Mar Fairgrounds hosting 300 horses, more than 50 are unclaimed
DEL MAR, CA – As of 5:00 p.m. on Halloween, the Del Mar Fairgrounds was still housing 310 horses and other assorted livestock while the Del Mar Horsepark is hosting 70 horses that had been relocated as a result of the Firestorm that recently swept through San Diego County.
The Fairgrounds continues to operate as an evacuation site for animals displaced by
the recent fires that have burned a large area of San Diego County.
More than 50 horses at the Fairgrounds have gone unclaimed by their owners. Images of 34 of the stray horses are now posted on the Del Mar Fairgrounds website at: www.sdfair.com/lost_horse_photos.php. People looking for their missing horses are encouraged to view the website before going to the Fairgrounds to look for their horses.
In addition to horses of all shapes and types, the Fairgrounds is also housing several sheep, ducks, and an emu, but all of those animals have identified owners. Today, more than 100 horses
were taken home.
The Fairgrounds was also notified today, that all horses under the jurisdiction of the San Diego Department of Animal Control (SDDAC) that were still being held at the Poway and Lakeside facilities would be relocated to the Del Mar Horsepark, on Monday, Nov. 3. The SDDAC will be closing those sites. All of the horses at those locations have identified owners.
Any horses remaining at the Fairgrounds will also be moved to Horsepark after Nov. 3. Horsepark is located east of the Fairgrounds and is a year-round equestrian center that can stable as many as 400 horses. For information on the upcoming relocation effort, please contact
the SDDAC at 619-236-2341.
Additionally, any private citizens who may be holding stray livestock are encourage to contact the SDDAC, so that those animals can be repatriated with their owners. Stray horses should be taken to the Del Mar Fairgrounds before Sunday evening.
For information on stray horses at the Fairgrounds, please call 858-509-5245.
When claiming their animals, owners should bring with them, any proof of ownership relating to the animal(s) including photos of them with the animals. SDDAC officials are only on site at the Fairgrounds between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and NO animals will be released from the Fairgrounds without the
approval of a SDDAC official.
Horse/livestock owners should enter the Fairgrounds through the Stable Gate located on Jimmy Durante Blvd., west of Interstate 5. # # # # |

Riverside County to open center for victims of wildfire
RIVERSIDE – A one-stop center to assist people whose lives have been devastated or disrupted by October’s wildfires will begin operations Monday (Nov. 3) at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds.
In conjunction with officials from state and federal government, as well as volunteer and community organizations, the two-day Local Assistance Center will open Monday at 10 a.m. and offer services until 8 p.m. The center will resume operations on Tuesday (Nov. 4) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“Our residents have been through a trying
ordeal and we are going to do everything we can to help them recover as quickly as possible,” Board of Supervisors Chairman John Tavaglione said.
Supervisors Jim Venable and Marion Ashley are expected to be present when the center opens Monday. Also expected to attend are U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer and state Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth.
At the center, residents – including those from tribal lands – will have access to information on services ranging from emergency housing assistance to building inspections. Anyone wishing to apply for services should call 1-800-621-3362 to register by phone
before arriving at the center. A phone bank will be available at the center to pre-register anyone who does not have telephone access.
A separate toll-free referral line will be established Monday (Nov. 3) and will remain in operation for three weeks. The fairgrounds is located off the Ramona Expressway at 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, Calif.
In addition to the center, Riverside County officials have developed other plans to help fire victims. The County Assessor Gary Orso and Treasurer Paul McDonnell will provide property-tax relief for people whose property was damaged or destroyed by
fire. Information about postponing December’s property-tax payment and having property reassessed will be available at the center.
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday also will consider a proposal to waive building-permit fees and other impact fees for people who rebuild homes and other structures destroyed by the recent fire in the Reche Canyon and Lake Skinner/Sage areas.
When the Local Assistance Center opens Monday, representatives from the following Riverside County departments will be available:
Department of Mental Health
